10 things I love about Jadyn

10 things I love about Jade....in random order

10. She is such a great big sister: Oh my gosh....she LOVES her brother! She helps him if he is crying, loves to get his binkie from him, plays with him, holds him, washes his hair when he is in the bath. She is so patient with him and has never gotten mad at him. I love watching her with him. That said-I think I've said "Get out of his face" ONE MILLION TIMES since Jaxon's been born! :)

9. She loves to be in her jammies and would wear them 24/7 if I let her: I mentioned this in some post below, but she really does love her jammies. If I let her put them on when she gets home from daycare, she thinks that is the greatest thing! I know I mentioned below that most of her jammies are mismatched with her favorite t-shirts, but I have invested in about 5 pairs of cute matching pj's that she likes lately since she is spending good quality time in them! Hey- I love my comfy clothes as much as she does...She must take after her mom!

8. She is finally sleeping in her own bed....by herslef: It's taken about a week with sticker charts and prizes, but I think we are there! She has been in bed asleep by 9:00 all week! I am so proud of her and it makes for better nights for Scott and I! YAY!!!

7. She is hillariously funny: See post below!

6. She remembers everything: Whether it was going to the zoo 6 months ago, telling her something 2 weeks ago, telling her she can have something "tonight" she will remember it. It's cute when she remembers fun things we did, but you have to be careful because if you promise something, she will remember it!

5. She loves to sing with me in the car....to mommy's songs: Seriously, it can be Snow Patrol, Neil Diamond, Hairspray, whatever, we have a CD of mine in the car and she loves to listed and SING to it. Yes, she actually knows the words. It's so fun!

4. She loves her "mommy's drink": Diet pepsi is definately her drink of choice and she knows it by the label. She has no idea that it's actually called "diet pepsi". She knows she can ask for a mommy's drink and everyone knows what she wants.

3. She is so smart and creative: Whether it's learning new letters, or pointing animals out in the clouds, it amazes me everyday how quickly she learns things

2.She loves to snuggle and give kisses and hugs: no matter what she is doing (watching t.v., coloring, playing with Jax) if I tell her I need a kiss, hug, or want to hold her, she will run over to me.

1.She makes being a mom so, so worth it-even on days where I am completely worn out and to my wits end, at the end of the day when I tuck her in and she tells me how much she loves me, it makes whatever happened that day seem so insignificant to the joy of being her mom.

Cute things Jade says....

**** "Can you think about it?" Obviously I tell her to often that "I'll think about it" when she asks a question. Funny thing is if I say yes, I'll think about it and then I still tell her no, she replies "No mom, think about it" Obviously thinking about things will always lead to a yes answer.

**** "My face is in the way" We were on a walk last week and the wind was blowing her hair in her eyes.

**** I asked Jade if she wanted to go on a walk and I would let her walk instead of ride in the stroller. She replied "Yep, that's a good idea" and yesterday I told her that I should take her home before I go to the store. She said "No, I want to go with you?" I said "You want to go with me to the store?" to which she replied "That's a great idea mom!"

**** We were walking to dinner after the circus and she wanted me to hold her. I told her she was getting too big, but I guess and after I picked her up she said "That's right"

**** "Daddy! I cried so much I miss you!" Whenever Scott comes home from work or school. Funny, never once was she crying though?!?

**** Tonight she was pure drama girl in the car. Gave me a glance into the future. We dropped Brandee off at the airport and Jade decided she wanted to go on the plane too. We said no and she broke out the waterworks (Now just remember it was probably only the 3rd time in her life she missed her afternoon nap) she starts saying-in the most dramatic tone- "Brandee I miss you" like one millisecond after Brandee shut the door and then would cry and sniffle and quietly, almost to herself "I like brandee. I miss her. There she goes (looking at a plane in the car)" It's hard to describe, but it was hillarious and Scott said "I have never heard her be more girl drama in my life!" I told him the scary thing is I was the same way-so dramatic. I'm in for it!

**** "Yes I can" "Yes I will" If we tell her no and she things she still should do it or should have it, she gives us this really sweet look and in the most patronizing voice says "Yes I can" or "Yes I will" As if she is telling you in a nice, forget you just told me no, type of voice

**** "It doesn't matter" This one I get for things like "Mom, it doesn't matter if I watch just one more show" as she shrugs her shoulders.

**** If she gets in trouble, she either gets embarassed or mad and folds her arms and finds the closest corner to go and hide in. Tonight we were waiting outside at a restaurant and she couldn't find a corner so she just folded her arms and laid on the ground instead! Hey, saves me the time from putting her in time out myself! :)

****Jadyn helped Scott watch her cousin Wyatt (8 months old) while we went to the Women's Conference. When I came home I found out that Jade had spent some time in time out because she kept getting in Wyatt's face and playing (which is not fun for the baby) with him. He would cry if she got close to him! They were leaving and Ash was holding him and he was crying and JAde says "It's ok Wyatt buddy, I'm right here!" Yeah, like that's why he was crying! We saw him today at my mom's and as soon as he saw Jade he started crying. Poor Kid. Jade just loves to smother the babies!

****"That's so chute! (cute)" Everything is so chute and she is so sincere when she says it!

**** "Thank you for the jammas from Costco" "Thank you for my braids" "Thank you taking me to the mall" She is so sweet sometimes and is so cute when she honestly and sincerely says thank you for things even days after they happened. It seriously melts my heart when she does it!

I could seriously go on and on. She keeps us entertained all day long. I really should just keep a pen and paper with me all day long because I know we don't remember them all. The scary thing is she is also in to repeating me. I said something this morning and she immediately repeated it! Scott and I were laughing so hard because it was something a 2 year old shouldn't be saying (no, I didn't swear :) ) Guess we will be on our toes around here a little more!

A side note....

Never say it's a good day until the day is over. My sweet, good natured, great sleeper, calm little boy was not so much any of those things today. He was awake from 8:00 a.m.-11:00 p.m. , with much crying during those hours. I have no idea what was wrong but he was not happy. Maybe I jinxed myself by saying it was such a wonderful day, at 9:00 in the morning. Lesson learned. I need to relax....I'm going to the heater.

A little piece of Heaven....it's a good day!

It's a great morning here at the Sommer house! Why you ask? I turned the heater on this morning. It was 58 degrees and my kids were freezing, so what's a mom to do! I LOVE the smell of the heater the first time it comes on for the year. It's such a cozy feeling to me. But you must know the best part of turning the heater on is how much time I will spend laying on it in the next 6 months! Man, I am so excited. So, I will go from sleeping on the couch the past 3 months with the baby, to sleeping on the heater. Yes, I know I am wierd, but it really is a little piece of Heaven and sooooo relaxing. Go ahead.....try it. It's so great! So, this is a pic of something you will see a lot at my house in the next little while. I am passing my weird love of heaters on to my kids!

It's 10:00......

And both of my kids have been asleep for an hour! I told JAdyn all day that she was going to have to go to sleep by herself tonight and no shows and amazingly enough, she went to bed with no tears. I'm not sure if it has to do with the fact that I made her go down for her nap as soon as she got home from daycare, which was an hour earlier than usual, the sticker chart I put on her door or if I just got lucky tonight, but whatever it was, it was a pleasant surprise. Now if I can just get her to stay asleep all night since last night she woke up twice crying! No, I'm not naive enough to think we are out of the dark on this one, but it's a start.

And just so I don't post with out a pic, here is one of JAde today. Didn't notice she had my lipstick, but didn't she do such a good job putting it on! And yes, she is in her jammies at 4:00 in the afternoon. She would wear jammies all day, every day if I let her. She always says "Ohhhhh, these are so comfy (or warmy, or softy, of some other cute thing)!" Most of the time her jammas are not matching. Her favorites are either character shirts or boy baseball shirts (they don't make baseball shirts for girls) both of which I only buy and let her wear for pj's. I don't blame her though- I love being in comfy clothes!

Oh...and a cute pix of Jax with a beanie on-the one the nurse knitted for Jade when she stayed in the hospital with out us when she had Jaundice (yes dad, the night that I went a little crazy! :) ) Isn't it so cute on him! It was soooo cold today!

Can I watch a show? I need a propel. 4 minutes?

These are words I hear every night. Our bedtime routine with Jadyn is difficult. She was always such a good sleeping baby....until we took her binkie away in Jan. That is when we started laying with her so she'd fall asleep, and then we let her sleep in our bed, and then we let her stay up way too late, whatever. Over the past year, it's just gone way down hill. We are trying to work on getting her in her own bed and at a decent hour, but we are still struggling. It's a struggle to say the least. About a week ago I decided that I would let her watch one short show in her room (portable DVD Player) after we did the whole Bath, books, scriptures, prayer routine. That way she was still in her bed, and I could get some things done. It worked but now she wants one every night. Tonight we did the bath at 8:00 and were reading the scriptures by 8:30. I was reading the scriptures with her and then was telling her how before we were born we lived with Jesus and as soon as I stopped talking she said "Can I watch a show now?" Yeah. Then after one show, she always needs a drink of propel. Then one more show. After that she cries, I go downstairs and in her sweetest voice she says "You lay by me 4 minutes?" Which is of course is never enough. I went back upstairs, it's now 10:00-2 hours after we started this. She cried for a few minutes but then fell asleep....I thought. At 10:30 more crying and calling for me. I go down and she has to go potty. She tries the whole "4 minutes" thing again but after a few tears, she finally went to sleep....... On a good note: JAxon sleeps 10:00-6:00 every day. Yay!

So speaking of Jadyn, I had my camera out yesterday and we were taking pics of her with all of her silly faces. I'd tell her to make a face and then she had to see them after!

Happy!

Silly!

I'm ignoring you!

Mad (She's good at this one!)

3 months old!

Is that possible? My baby is 3 months old? Although the last 3 months have gone by very quickly, it is hard to believe there was a time when we didn't have him! Anyhow, just wanted to say happy 3 months to Jax....now I am off to pick up after my little tornado...oops, I mean Jadyn!

June Cleaver, Betty Crocker?

Ok, so I know that any of you that know me, know that those two names do not refer to me at all, especially when it comes to cooking. I mean, come on, my own family laughed- a lot- at me while we were in Lake Powell when I tried (but only had success after my sister helped me out a little) to make french toast for the first time!

But....today I went above and beyond, and I CANNED SALSA! The even amazing thing is that 1- It worked and 2- It takes soooo good. Even Scott loves it and he is not a salsa man. Now, I have to give credit where credit is due. My dad gave me tons of tomatoes from his garden and told me I should can them. I said ok, but didn't have too much intention on doing so. But....I didn't want the tomatoes to go to waste. So, My good friend Cheryl is a canner and cans all types of things. So I called her and her reply was "Oh, perfect! I just finished canning salsa this weekend and I have all of the peppers and onions you would need. In fact I will even chop them all up for you. Oh, I also have jars and a steamer you can use!" How could I pass that up? It was soooo nice of her and having everything chopped for you makes canning a breeze. Her mom's recipe was delicious! Yes, I called the right person and she is a wonderful friend. (Thanks again Cher!)

So, just a for a short time today, I felt a little June Cleaverish. Have to admit though, It didn't last long. I grabbed a 5 buck Little Ceasar pizza for dinner! :)

18:1-Ratio of sleep time to awake time

A sick baby must equal a very tired baby? Well, at least for Jaxon. I put him down last night for bed at 10:00. He woke up to eat at 6:00 and went back to sleep until I got him up at 9:15 to eat and he just slept while I held him for another 30 min. He finally ate and was back to sleep at 10:30. Jade and I went to lunch with a friend at the mall. We did some shopping, went to Old Navy, came home, JAde watched a show and then took a nap, I worked the 2 hours she napped, she woke up, and finally at 5:15 I told JAde she could wake Jax up. Yes, he slept from 10:30-5:15!!!! He probably slept a good 1.5 before I put him to bed. I couldn't believe it! I was worried he wouldn't sleep tonight, but here he is at 10:30.

Sleeping babies are so cute and it's so nice to have a good sleeping baby, but I will say I missed him today. I'm not used to him sleeping that much. I shouldn't say that out loud. I'll probably get no sleep from him tomorrow! It's now 1:00 a.m. and I need to follow my child and GO TO SLEEP!

A lull in blogging....

We have a sick household right now. Scott is sick with that yucky stomach thing that's been going on. I think there are several in my family that have had it this past week. My mom was talking with someone the other day, whose mom is a nurse, and she was mentioning that the weird worm thing that has caused Health officials to shut down swimming for those 5 and under, starts in lake water. Hmmmm..... I don't think it's a coincidence. Anyhow, Scott is very sick with that. I have been avoiding him like the plague! I don't want it. I had my fair share of sickness the day we left for Powell.
Jaxon on the other hand, has an awful cold. Ugh, I feel so bad for him. He can't breathe very well and his eyes are red and watery. He's miserable. Since he is so congested it makes him have a hard time eating. So we are in a vicous cycle. He gets hungry, I try to feed him, he gets mad because he can't breathe while he's eating, he quits eating after he gets just enough so he isn't starving and then we start the whole thing over about every 30 min. It has made for some long nights. Especially because I don't want Scott to help with him since he has been sick.
Jadyn seems relatively healthy (knock on wood) She has allergies though but she is used to them. They are pretty constant for her
And....Just so you don't think we ever have a dull moment with her, here is a good story for today! I wanted to go to the gym tonight, seeing as I didn't get up this morning due to the no sleep last night. The kids were going to stay home with Scott. Jade decides she will go with me. I told her she could, but would need to go to the kid place to play and I would pick her up afterwards. She says ok, all the while I know full well that she won't go in there to play. It looks a whole lot like the nursery room and in case some of you are not aware. She DESPISES nursery if I don't sit with her the entire time. I know, very un-Jadyn like. We get to the gym, and she walks in the daycare place excited to play, sees that I am walking out of the daycare place, and she then decides she isn't staying. So......I take her to class with me. I sit her in the corner and Ralynne (the instructor) brings her over a Bosu ball to play on. Nice. Jade plays for 10 min, is having a great time, I am happy I am getting my workout in. We were only 15 min in to class when I look over at her and she has that "Uh Oh" look on her face and I knew seconds before I saw the little fountain running down her legs, down the Bosu ball, and on to the floor! Yep, she had an accident. Why is it that a child can go for weeks with no accident and the one time they do, it is always when you are the least prepared? Well, I wasn't about to leave-good or bad mom? Who knows- So I grabbed some towells and cleaned it up, grabbed a blanket out of the car and wrapped her up, and finished class! Hey- she had a fun time and I got my workout in for the day. Ahhh, the joys of parenthood!

Jaxon Zachary Sommer

My almost 3 year old is very, uh, enthusiastic and entertaing, so I have a feeling that for awhile, until her brother gets a little bigger, she will be the topic of many blogs. I wouldn't want Jaxon to feel left out, so I decided that I would make a blog just for him!

I'll go a little David Letterman and list 10 things about my little guy that I love!

10. He is saving me money. Boy=less money to spend on clothes. We all know I have an obsession buying things for sister.

9. He is very content and rarely cries, unless he is hungry

8. He puts up with his sister being in his face 24/7. Not sure how long this will last though! :)

7. He loves his car seat and is such a good baby in the car.

6. He loves the bath/water and would stay in there for hours if I let him

5. He loves hanging out on my lap while I am at the computer

4. He LOVES his swing and spends many awake and sleeping hours in his baby papasan

3. He went from sleeping every 2 hours at night for the first month and the past two nights has slept 8 hours!

2. He has the cutest smile that he gives openly to anyone who tries!

1. He loves his mommy and convinced me from day one that having a little boy is just as wonderful as everyone told me it would be!

So there you go. A little information about Jax, since I haven't written much about him. He is getting so big. He started out at 8 lbs 11 oz and at 2 months was 11 lbs 12 oz. He rolled over for the first time last Saturday. I just can't believe how fast time is flying by. Before I know it he'll be 3 too and getting in to as much mischief as his big sister!

I love ya Jax!

Fun at the State Fair

I often wonder how many people really love the state fair. I think it's a love/hate thing. I find people either love the State Fair and go every year, or they hate it and won't go. Often those that "hate" it have never been, they just hate things like that in general. Anyhow, I'm not in love with it, but Jadyn has always liked it, so I have taken her the past 3 years. Scott went the first year we took her, and said that was his last year (party pooper) I have learned a trick though. The first year we took her it was on a Saturday night. Bad idea. You could barely move through the crowds. The past 2 years it has been a weekday, in the morning it has been much more plesant. Scott's sister, Brandee, has been nice enough to go with us the past two years! Jadyn seemed to really like the fair this year. I asked her what her favorite thing was and she told me "the moo's"
She also liked the baby pigs and said "Those piggy's want to eat their mommy too!" Pretty funny.
I managed to avoid the rides, seeing as they are way overpriced, but did let her ride the big yellow slide, which she liked! She also had to ride the horsey! This is the face she gave me when she saw me with the camera!

Jade asked today if we could go again, so it's safe to say we had another successful State Fair visit and I'm sure we'll be riding these horses again next year!

Family Vacation!

We just got back from a big family vacation. Josh was the only one who wasn't able to come! Megan and Ryan were nice enough to invite us all down to Lake Powell to spend time on their house boat. I think we ended up with 10 adults and 10 kids. We had so much fun! The trip started out a little shakey when I woke up with the flu the morning we were supposed to leave. I was so sick! Luckily it only lasted about 24 hours!
Scott spent his time fishing. He took Jadyn out the first morning there, and funny, but it was also her last morning as well! I thought he was crazy to take her in the first place. 3 hours on a boat with a 3 year old, trying to make her just sit there while you fish, does not seem like it would go well! He did fish with her off the boat the other days, and that seemed to go much better! Jadyn loved playing in the water! She is a little fish! She loved being with her cousins 24/7. She seems to be quite the pest to Seth and Zach, following them around, but they are so patient with her! I spent my time watching the kids, hanging out, and reading the "Twilight" books along with the rest of my family. I swear half of us were all reading the same series! We had 4 books down there and they were all being read the entire time we were there! Jaxon did really well and spent most of his time in the traveling swing my sister is lending us. I have NO idea what we would have done without it. He slept in there the entire trip!
Both kids were good in the car which was a very nice surprise for us. Jaxon loves his carseat and Jadyn had her DVD player and her "bucket" (think big bucket full of markers, crayons, paper, scissors, glue) and she was good to go! All in all we had a great trip and it was fun to spend time with our family!
