Sooo behind

Going back to Fall! Jax decided that he wanted to try baseball again this fall. He had a great coach (Steve Perkins-Bryn Bevan's husband) that was really good with the kids. Scott was able to come to all of Jaxon's game and help him out-with baseball skills and also help him stay on track. ;) I think Jax liked it ok. We didn't have any huge melt downs about going but I don't think he loved it. I am not sure if we will ask him if he wants to play this spring or not. If there is one thing I have learned though with Jax it is that if he doesn't want to play then it's best to leave it at that and not force it. I am glad he played for fall though and that Scott was able to spend time with him. 

Turtle

So this one day, in October, I had a really weak lapse in my parental judgement. The story goes about like this: Jadyn has always wanted a turtle. Scott brought one home this summer and we just couldn't afford to get the set up for it to keep it. Jadyn cried. A few weeks before Jade's birthday I saw a turtle listed for free on Facebook and for some odd reason I decided it would be a great birthday present. What. was. I. thinking?!?!? So I talked to Scott and he agreed that we should go ahead and get it. So he picked up the tank and turtle and food from the lady listing it as free (which turned into $25...) and then we needed lights so we got those from someone else on KSL. When Jadyn came home from dance that night we told her we had a surprise early birthday present and she was sooo excited when she saw the turtle! She loved him and named him buddy. 

It's been 3 months and I think I sorely regret my decision. When we first got him he rarely swam and wouldn't eat. We thought he must need a bigger tank so we switched my brother for a bigger tank. Well, cleaning that tank takes 1.5 hours to clean, every two weeks. Scott does not love that. The turtle still wasn't eating and seemed very lethargic. I talked to people at Pet Smart and I decided that he was freezing. So....we bought a heater. And it worked! He swam and ate a ton! And then...he got some gigantic sore on his head so we had to keep him out of the water for a month and take him down to his water to eat every day and back to the box. Last week I went down and realized he wasn't swimming as much again. I felt the water, ice cold. Nice...heater broke. So we need another one. Anyway, all of this has led me to realize that we REALLY should have stayed petless. I totally caved on this one and now when I try to ask Jade about MAYBE giving "Buddy" away she says no way. Let's just hope that I never cave on Hadley's obsession with dogs! :)

Grandma Bev

Man....I am soooo behind. I am going to try to work i the next few weeks to get completely caught up!

1930 ~ 2013

Our sweet mother and grandmother, Beverly B. Silcox, waltzed into eternity with her eternal companion, Pete, on September 22, 2013. Beverly was born October 7, 1930 in South Jordan, Utah to Wallace DeLisle and Belva Leola Freeman Beckstead. On January 19, 1950, she married Owen Darrell "Pete" Silcox in Riverton, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on January 8, 1955. Pete preceded her in death July 10, 2007.

Beverly enjoyed serving others, especially her family. She was always able to convince her great grandchildren that each one was her favorite. The family activities included cooking, and enjoying the Annual Pumpkin Party. She was an avid Utah Jazz fan and loved to bowl. For 25 years she worked at Peterson's Market in Riverton. She served in the Relief Society Presidency and was a dedicated Visiting Teacher. 

Survivors: sons, Raymond and special friend, Patti Montgomery, Evanston, Wyoming; Bruce and special friend, Marlene Johnson, Riverton; daughters, Belva (Roy) Sommer, Riverton; DeAnna (Cory) Holt, Saratoga Springs; 16 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. Beverly was preceded in death by her husband, Pete; parents; brother, Wallace; sister, Betty Rae; father and mother-in-law, and Pete's family.

Beverly's life will be celebrated on Friday, September 27, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Riverton 1st LDS Ward Chapel, 13200 South 1500 West. A viewing for family and friends will be held at the church on Thursday from 6-8 pm and again on Friday from 9:45-10:45 am. Interment will be in the Riverton City Cemetery next to her beloved Pete.

Combining families through remarriage isn't easy. It takes a lot of patience and love and I can easily say that Belva's Mom, Beverly has been 100% loving and accepting since the day Roy and Belva decided to get married. She counted all of us as her own family from day one. She will never know just how much we have always appreciated that. She always had great advice and I loved hearing her stories from when she was younger. She is a wonderful woman. I am grateful we were able to see her the day before she passed away.
