Thought I would do a few updates on the kiddos:
Jax is getting so big. Having Hads around makes me realize even more how big he is. I can't believe he is going to be 5 this summer!
Over Christmas break I started hearing Jax say things when he would get in trouble that made me worry. He would do something wrong and get sent to timeout. When I would talk to him about it I would say. "Jax, why did you do ________" and over about the course of a week I heard all three of these answers: "Because I'm crazy" , "Because I'm naughty" and "Because I can't control myself". I felt so bad every time he said them. I quickly realized that week that he has been hearing way too many negative things from Scott and I and had started using them. Ugh...that parenting guilt! Scott and I talked about it and have really tried to change the way we talk to him since then. Instead of getting upset with him and saying "You are (naughty, crazy, out of control)" we have started saying "Jax, that was not a good choice" or "that was a bad decision" and have also really worked on overly praising good things with "That is such a good choice!" I wish I would have done this sooner. I worry....a lot...that my parenting with Jaxon has been less than stellar. He has been a challenge for me but looking back on the past 3 years I can easily see that the way I have handled the issues have not been good. So, we are just trying our best to work on it and hope we haven't scarred him for life!
We tried indoor Soccer with Jaxon because it seemed like he enjoyed outdoor soccer and it would be good physical activity. It definitely didn't go as well as fall soccer. He loved playing with the fake grass and tipping over the barriers between the fields a little more than he loved playing soccer. He still did pretty good though and made a few goals. Because I want to keep him involved in some type of sport I asked him the other day if I could sign him up for t-ball again. His reply? "Nope, never". ;) He said he was good to go ahead with outdoor soccer again so I think we will stick with that for now. I think tball is waayyy too slow for him right now. I am secretly (or not) happy he doesn't want to play. T-ball is hard for 2 reasons. 1-the games are during the week and since Scott is in baseball I am the only chauffeur. Seeing I already drive Jade to dance 3 days a week it would be rough getting jax to games during the week...with a baby who hates the car. 2- It's hard for me to see jax at t-ball trying to learn something Scott could/should teach him but can never come to. It's frustrating and makes me irritated so it's probably just best for him to not play right now. It will be interesting to see if he really connects with any sport. Right now I'm just not seeing it! ;)
Funny things Jax has said lately:
- We were at the dentist getting his teeth cleaned (which he did great) and the hygienist was talking to him about Christmas. Jax said he got legos and the hygienist asked if he was a good builder. Jax said "Yes but my dad is the very greatest at building". It was pretty cute
- He still talks about Santa and often says "Santa brings presents even if you are naughty. Yeah, even if you are on the bad list he still will bring you some" Hmmm...wonder what convinced him of this! ;) I think he may have been a little worried this year!
- Last weekend he got sent to his room for something and he was NOT happy about it. Scott and I were in our bedroom laying on the bed with Hads and we hear this: "Mom!!!! I am VERY angry. I am not giving you NO more hugs!!!!" Door slam. Scott and I start laughing. Door opens "DAD!!! I am not giving you any birthday presents ever and none on a Sunday either!!!" Door Slam. Scott and I can't even control the laughing. Door opens "And mom....you are not getting breakfast!!!!" Door slam. It was hilarious. He was trying with all his might to come up with things to upset us. Too bad he couldn't see us laughing in our room! When we told him he could come out he came in the room and I told him he hurt my feelings...no more hugs? He said "Yeah, I was kidding, I will give you everything!" Whew!
- Unlike Jadyn, who sometimes becomes my personal servant (Jade can you....) and is always pretty quick to listen, I have given up on Jax. He is not about to be a servant to anyone. It usually goes like this: "Jax, can you...." and we get back a response like "No", "I'm tooo tirreeddd", "My ankle is broken", etc. A few days ago my nephews were over. I was on the tredmill and TWICE jax came all the way up from the basement to ask me questions for his cousins! I told Scott they must have more power than we do because I could have never have gotten him to do that!
- He doesn't love the dark. It used to not bother him but it does now. He woke up in the middle of the night a few days ago and I tucked him back in bed and he sleepily said "mom? I think I am going to be afraid of the night" I turned on his fish lamp and he was back to sleep
- He could eat squishy cheese all the good long day. We have decided it is banned from our house for awhile. If it's in the fridge it is the only thing he wants to eat and will sneak it up to his room whenever possible!
- He is a home body. He asks everyday "Where are we going today?" and if I tell him we are staying home he is so happy. He is very content to chill at home playing with toys and watching t.v. and he is still VERY good when he is home by himself. The second Jade walks in the door he is back to teasing, but is awesome during the day.
- He loves to get his "favorite sucker" (smartie type suckers) from the gas station.
- He loves to get in Hadley's face to talk to her. We have had to get after him lately because he will say "Mom, I made Hadley hit herself but then I rubbed it!" or "Mom, I squeezed Hadley's toe real hard but then I rubbed it!" "Mom, I sucked on Hads cheek but then I wiped it" It drives me a little (no, a lot) crazy!
-He is very creative and I love hearing him talk to himself while he plays. It's so funny.
Jax still has a hard time controlling his emotions. He gets frustrated pretty easily and hasn't figured out how to control those emotions very well. This leads to crying, screaming, hitting, throwing. It is getting a lot better though, which makes me happy to see. He can also be such a sweet kid too and I love those moments so much! He is always quick to give me kisses (Though he promptly rubs it and says "I rubbed my kiss in!"). He loves to play the wii "Spider hunting" game with Scott and also build legos with him. I love seeing the two of them together.
I sure do love ya Jax!

Jax and his "squishy cheese"

Jax loves to draw. The other day he drew lots of dino's and hung them on his well. What is this one? Well it's a terodactyl doing a handstand! So awesome!

He woke up at 5:00 a.m. asking if it was time to paint yet. I had told him the night before we could paint after Jade went to school. I think it was all he thought about while he slept!

Candyland game on a Tues afternoon
I was trying to ask Jax a question one night. I was in the kitchen and could see him watching t.v. but he wouldn't answer me. I walked over to him and realized this was why he wasn't talking!

Thank heaven's for the itouch! It can keep him busy while we wait for jade at dance, at dr apts, funerals and even church if we need it to! This thing has been sooo great for him! So glad Santa brought it to Jade last year!
